Igrid’s Version 1. The Carrier of Death: On the Edge of Extinction.

Chronology.

This version, like the rest I have uploaded and will be posting day after day, is a part of the extra chapters of the story and, therefore, complements them. I must remind you that the book doesn’t need these chapters to be understood, but I thought it would be interesting to tell the story of a few of the characters from each of their perspectives.

Introduction. Igrid’s Version 1.

Condemned to live in the Earth’s interior along with the rest of her companions freed from slavery, Igrid spends her days next to her husband, hoping to have a fleeting chance to take revenge from the last of the men that hurt her so much in the past. Hidden somewhere in the planet, the powerful villain remains concealed, believing to be safe.

Knowing how dangerous it’d be to go out to look for him, the lady resigns herself to remain in the Emperor’s Fortress, the only place where both are safe. Protected from the Sun’s destructive rays, this Fortress has become the home of the free people, managing to resist an exterior temperature so extreme, it has scorched the surface, ending with any trace of life.

For her part, Igrid, endowed with a matchless position within the Empire, she finds herself constantly forced to prove her worth in a world where only those with enough courage are worthy of survival. One night, she awakens confused, at high hours of the night, unable to understand where the hell her husband is. Believing with complete certainty that he’d never abandon her, she parts in search of him, hoping to find him and unknowing that the luck of both of them could change in the next hours.

Igrid’s Version 1.

Hearing a door close, I subtly open my eyes and observe our creepy bedroom. Slightly illuminated by a lamp in the form of a reddish sphere that hangs from the center of the room, I examine in an instant my surroundings. Believing I might have suffered a sort of hallucination, I slide my hands over the bed, noticing my husband has abandoned our bedside.

Upset by the fact that he left again without letting me know, I remove the sheets off of my naked body and, furious, walk towards the crystal wall. Placing both hands on the frozen surface, I irritatedly observe our huge fortress. Slightly dazzled by the countless lights that emerge from it, I look at the clock, noticing that it’s a little past four a.m.

Unable to believe that he’s abandoned me again, I try to remain calm while I wait for my impertinent husband to exit our residence. A few minutes later, I manage to see him and, irritated, ferociously slam the crystal. Watching how a few floors below, he gets away from the building, I turn towards the dresser and from between the garments, grab one of the combat suits.

Quickly I put it on and, scant seconds later, I grab my laser crossbow from my nightstand. Feeling its familiar tact through the thin gloves of my outfit, I cross the door of my compartment.

“Igrid.” I hear how a woman calls me, who, upon seeing me, gets up from the chair located next to my residence’s entrance. “What do you need?”

“Where has my husband gone to?” I ask her angrily, fixating my dark eyes on her. “Take me with him.”

“I don’t know where he is.” She tells me lowering her gaze. “He hasn’t given me that information.”

“Naeria.” I say through clenched teeth still with my weapon in my hands. “I am giving you an order.”

“Zayron told me not to take you to him until seven.” She indicates depressed, sitting back in the chair. “I have to remain here and stop you from leaving the building.”
